I did Phaidor, why not Thuvia. For those who can't tell if that's English or not, those are two of the three girls of The Martian Tale Trilogy, the other being the Princess herself, Dejah Thoris (coming up soon).
I've been following IMDb's Dejah Thoris casting poll for the upcoming movie, and somewhere along the line someone (very casually) mentioned Olivia Munn. Upon looking her up, I realized she had the rounded face I was thinking of for Thuvia, Maid of Mars. So I tried to draw her face like her, although every picture on the internet of her has open lip smiles, and I simply cannot draw that. So the lips (the whole chin area, really), I had to do freehand. And I hope you can tell those are freckles.
As for the costume, I didn't come up with it. It's actually based on a female heiroglyphic figure at the San Bartolo Mayan murals. I've followed the excavation for several years now in National Geographic, and I've drawn some of the figures in my sketchbook. Somehow, one of the female's outfit (little more than doodles, really) ended up as my inspiration. As for the coloring, I was going for the period of time when Thuvia was in captivity, and thus was figuring most of her close would be made out of Banth skins, like my Phaidor costume. So that's all the yellow and orange. Her arms and hands (which were hard to draw like that, so you'd better appreciate them) are meant to look like some sort of "captive" pose or something. So there you go.
Ooh, and now after the fact, I come up with (I think) a better actress for the role, Gemma Arterton.
